◤FIFA World Cup in Qatar◢ South Korea head coach Paulo Bento steps down after 4-1 loss to Brazil..

South Korea national team head coach Paulo Bento has announced he will not seek a contract extension and will resign immediately after the country's 4-1 defeat to favorites Brazil in the round of 16 knockout stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Monday.

Bento made the above announcement when he was asked by reporters at the post-match press conference. He said that he wanted to plan for the future and would no longer fight hand in hand with South Korea, but he would rest and recharge before making plans. At the same time, he also revealed that he has informed the players and the chairman of the Korean Football Association of this decision.

"We just have to think about the future, and it's not continuing to stay with the South Korea national team," Bento said.

"I have announced it to the players and the chairman of the Korean Football Association. It is a decision I have made since September and it is set in stone. I have confirmed this today and I must thank the players for their support. They have done their best and I am happy and proud to be their manager."

The 53-year-old Paulo Bento took over the head coaching position of the South Korea national team left by Shin Tae-yong after he left to take over the helm at the Indonesian national team in August 2018. He overhauled and adjusted the team's tactics to that of offensive football from their defense first tactical approach commonly seen in the Big 5 European league clubs, and great results have been achieved.

Bento is also the third coach to successfully lead the South Korea national team to the round of 16 knockout stage of the World Cup after former coaches Guus Hiddink and Huh Jung-moo, and it is also the first time the country has achieved this feat after 12 years, an achievement which he should be proud of.

Throughout his four years in charge of the team, Bento led the South Korea national team to 57 games, amassing 35 wins, 13 draws, and 9 losses, scoring 100 goals, conceding 46 goals, and a goal difference of 64, as well as a winning percentage of 61.4%, which should be envied by many.
