◤Plusvalenza Scandal◢ Fabio Paratici appeals against FIFA

The Athletic quoted multiple sources on Monday and reported that Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus' former Italian Director of Football Fabio Paratici has filed an appeal against FIFA which imposed him a global suspension on all things football for his alleged involvment in the Plusvaleza scandal, financial irregularities case.

According to reports, Paratici, who has always insisted that he has never committed a crime, is very dissatisfied with the punishment imposed on him by FIFA, hence he appealed and maintained that before the results came out on April 19 local time, he should not have been judged without proper trial.

Regarding Paratici's appeal against his case, FIFA has confirmed the matter through an official spokesperson, saying: "At this moment, FIFA can only confirm that Mr. Paratici has appealed the decision of the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee's decision to extend his suspension which was handed out by the Italian Football Association (FIGC) to a global scale, and because the incident involves legal procedures, it is inconvenient for FIFA to respond too much to this matter at this time.”

FIFA issued a statement at the end of March this year, announcing that the suspension on football matters in Italy of Paratici and 11 other former Juventus executives involved in the Plusvalenza Scandal would be extended to the global scale. Soon after, Paratici's current employers, Tottenham Hotspur also announced the next day that he would step down from his position as Director of Football.

The 50-year-old Fabio Paratici played for Sassuolo in two stints during the 1990s as a player, playing as a defender but also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder.

After retiring in 2005, Paratici first worked for Sampdoria as Head of Scouting Department, before later moving to Juventus as Sporting Director in May 2010.

During his 11 years tenure at I Bianconneri, Paratici helped Juventus sign a number of important stars, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, Paul Pogba and many more, contributing to the 19 championships that the club has won, among those, a 9 consecutive Serie A titles which should be the proudest moment of his career.

It is worth mentioning that, on the second day after Conte was sacked, Paratici also shouted to the fans through the official website of the Premier League giants, calling on everyone to support the transitional coach, his compatriot Christian Stellini.

On January 21, 2023 local time earlier, Sky Sports Italia quoted Corriere dello Sport on Saturday and reported that Juventus was formally punished by the FIGC with a deduction of 15 points due to financial irregularities in the Plusvalenza Scandal.

According to reports, the FIGC made this decision after Juventus failed to appeal the previous verdict to the Italian Federal Court of Appeal. Likewise, the Italian Federal Court of Appeal has also allowed UEFA to impose further sanctions on I Bianconneri following the verdict.

The report also stated that with the verdict issued, many current and former executives of Juventus have also been sentenced to varying degrees of Italian footballing activities bans, including the former club chairman, Andrea Agnelli, vice-chairman and legendary Czech Republic former international midfielder Pavel Nedved, and current sporting director Federico Cherubini.

According to the verdict, Agnelli will be banned for 1 year, while Federico Cherubini will be suspended for 1 year and 4 months.

As for Pavel Nedved, the Italian Football Association gave him an eight-month suspension.

At the same time, the club's former sporting director Paratici was given the heaviest two-and-a-half-year suspension.

Not only that, Maurizio Arrivabene, the former head of the Ferrari F1 team who joined the Juventus board of directors as an independent shareholder last year and became the club's CEO, was also given a one-year suspension.
