AC Milan is safe at the top of Serie A after defeating Bologna

AC Milan beat Bologna 2-1 at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium.

BOLOGNA - Through a quite exhausting match, AC Milan finally managed to steal three points during a visit to Bologna headquarters in the 20th week of the Italian ALiga 2020/2021, which took place at the Renato Dal'Ara Stadium, Saturday (30/1).

Each Rossoneri goal was scored by Ante Rebic in the 26th minute, and Franck Kessie's penalty in the 55th minute. Meanwhile, the host's consolation goal came through Andrea Poli in the 82nd minute.

This victory also widened the distance between Milan and Inter Milan in second place in the Serie A standings to five points. Milan temporarily stay in first place with a collection of 46 points.

As for Bologna this is their second defeat in a row. This result keeps them stuck in position 13 with the acquisition of 20 points from five wins, five draws and 10 defeats.

Milan coach Stefano Pioli again installed a 4-2-3-1 mainstay scheme. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has again become the focus of the Rossoneri's bang line with the help of Ante Rebic, Rafael Leao and Alexis Saelemaekers.

The same scheme was shown by Sinisa Mihajlovic to reduce the tactical game played by Milan.

The two teams have been buying and selling attacks since the first half began. Both Milan and Bologna apply open play by relying on the movement of two wingers.

Milan almost took the lead in the 12th minute when Theo Hernandez curled a shot from the right with his left foot towards the far post. The ball can be pushed over by goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski and hits the bar.

After several opportunities Milan failed to open the scoring, a golden opportunity was created in the 24th minute when defender Mitchell Dijks pulled Rafael Leao's jersey in the penalty box. Referee Daniele Doveri pointed to the spot after going through the VAR and pointed to the spot.

The Bologna players reacted, but Doveri did not budge. When the argument was going on, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was ready to be the executor at the spot. Two minutes later, a penalty is taken by Ibrahimovic. The ball is directed to the lower left, but can be read by Skorpuski. Fortunately Rebic was observant and swift to grab the wild ball and put Milan 1-0 up.

The match was even more interesting because Bologna immediately responded. Sinisa Mihajlovic's team often made it difficult for the Milan defense guarded by Fikayo Tomori and Alessio Romagnoli.

Riccardo Orsolini's kick only narrowly sideways the Milan goal. Then the 39th minute, Nicola Sansone's shot from close range is blocked by Donnarumma with his outside foot.

A minute later, it was Milan's turn to respond through the cooperation of three players. Rebic unleashed a cross into the net which Ibra headed over to Calabria. Unfortunately the Milan full-back released a light header and landed easily in Skorupski's arms.

Bologna has a second golden opportunity to score on the counter-attack three on two. But Nicolas Dominguez's efforts were countered by Donnarumma again. 1-0 score lasted until the interval of the match.
