This is Arema's third title in the President's Cup tournament.

JAKARTA -- Arema FC successfully won the 2022 President's Cup title after holding Borneo FC 0-0 in the second leg of the 2022 President's Cup final at Segiri Stadium, Samarinda, Sunday (17/7/2022) night WIB. The result was enough for Arema to secure the trophy after previously winning 1-0 in the first leg at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang.


This is Arema's third title in the President's Cup tournament and Arema has a long journey to secure this third title. Starting from the group phase, Arema joined in Group D with PSM Makassar, Persikabo 1973, and Persik Kediri. Arema became the host for the Group D preliminary round match at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.


Eduardo Almeida's team had received criticism because the team nicknamed Singo Edan opened the tournament with a 0-1 defeat to PSM Makassar. However, after the defeat, Arema rose by winning the next two matches against Persik and Persikabo, with an identical score of 1-0. Arema also advanced to the quarter-finals with the status of Group D winners.

In the last eight, Arema FC met the runner-up in Group B, Barito Putera. As group winners, Singo Edan hosted the quarter-final match which was only held once. The match, which was held at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, ended in a goalless draw in normal time. Singo Edan came out victorious on penalties which ended with a 5-4 advantage.

In the semifinals, Arema met with PSIS Semarang who managed to get rid of Bhayangkara FC. The semifinals were held over two legs, and Arema won 2-0 when they visited the Jatidiri Stadium, Semarang, in the first leg. Singo Edan, who appeared carefree, won again with a score of 2-1 in the second leg at Kanjuruhan Stadium.

In the top party, Arema played as the host in the first leg. Eduardo Almeida's team secured a narrow 1-0 win at Kanjuruhan Stadium. Furthermore, Arema obtained a 0-0 draw at Segiri Stadium, Samarinda, in the second leg and were entitled to win the title with a 1-0 aggregate.
