Arrogant but disappointing Nathan Jones sacked by Southampton following loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers..

Southampton announced on its official website on Sunday that the club's former Welsh head coach Nathan Jones has been sacked immediately.

Southampton also stated in an official statement that as a result of this change in coaching staff, English first-team assistant coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan will also be sacked immediately.

At the same time, the club's Spanish first-team coach Rubén Sellés will immediately become the club's interim head coach to help the club prepare for the Premier League game against Chelsea in the coming weekend until a new head coach takes office.

With Jones' sacking, this also means that he has become the eighth coach to be sacked in the Premier League this season, and he is also the second head  coach sacked by the Saints this season after renowned Austrian head coach Ralph Hassenhuttl. In addition, Jones also became the first head coach to be sacked in less than 100 days in Southampton's club history.

The 49-year-old Jones was born on May 28, 1973 in the small village of Blaenrhondda, Wales. During his playing career, he primarily played as a left wing-back, but he can also be deployed as a left-winger. He is the club legend of both Brighton and the non-league side Yeovil Town, among them, when playing for the former, he won promotion three times with the club in the early 2000s.

After retiring in the summer of 2012, Jones returned to Brighton as an assistant coach of the club, and was once appointed as the team's interim head coach two years later. Later, after the new official head coach took office in February of the following year, Jones swithced his role as first-team coach.

In January 2016, Jones was appointed as the head coach of Luton Town. He successfully led the team to break through 10 years of stagnation and return to League One. He even broke Manchester City's record by helping the club becomes the club with the most goals scored of the season across the four top English leagues.

With such a good performance, Jones was poached to Stoke City in early January 2019. After helping Stoke City successfully avoid relegation, Jones was sacked after a 5-game losing streak at the beginning of the 2019/20 EFL Championship season.

After being out of work for half a year, Jones was re-appointed as the head coach of Luton Town in May 2020. During this period, after helping the club successfully relegation, he managed to shock many people and helped the club finish sixth last season. Unfortunately, he failed to help the club realize the dream of playing in the top flight again, after their loss to Huddersfield Town in the EFL Championship play-off semi-finals but none-the-less it succeeded in winning him the title of the EFL Championship's Manager of the Year.

On November 10, 2022, Jones replaced Hassenshutl as the head coach of Southampton. During this period, he led the team to a 2-0 upset victory over Manchester City in the English League Cup. Apart from the narrow win over Everton, he has never won any games in the Premier League, hence this also made him being sacked after a disappointing loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers despite going in front first at the weekend.

It is worth mentioning that Nathan Jones, who may be due to his childhood experience or personality, has always been outspoken and has a very arrogant attitude. He has always known to be someone who love getting on fans and media's nerves. When he was coaching at Stoke City, he also completely disgusted the fans of the club because of his self-righteous attitude and his refusal to accept criticism. Jones, who still maintains such an attitude throughout his time at Southampton, has already been hated by the Saints' fans since the end of December.
