Arsenal boss wants Liverpool assistant coach

At that time Arteta needed a new right hand

LONDON -- Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta apparently wanted Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders in 2019. At that time Arteta needed a new right hand when he replaced Unai Emery in 2019.

Lijnders, who has been Liverpool's assistant coach since 2014 said this in his new book, Intensity.

Arteta, who was previously assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, asked for his help after seeing Lijnders' performance with Klopp.

"Mikel Arteta asked me to be an assistant manager as he prepared for his new career," Lijnders says in his book.

Both of them have studied together for several years in pro coaching courses. He also admitted that there were changes at Liverpool when I was in charge of the team.

"This is the biggest compliment I've ever received from someone. But I thought I'd better turn down the request," Lijnders said.

The man from the Netherlands admitted that Arteta was forced to take him to London. But he thought leaving the team was not the right reason for him at the time.

Lijnders also explains every story that the media doesn't smell in his book. The book Intensity: Inside Liverpool - Our Identity goes on sale on August 4th.
