Arteta invites Wenger to help Arsenal
2021-11-11 22:06LONDON - Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta hopes Arsene Wenger can return to help the Gunners. Wenger's presence, said Arteta, can be a source of inspiration and boost the motivation of the players and staff at the North London club.
In addition to being listed as the longest-serving coach to have handled Arsenal, Wenger is the most successful coach in the club's history. For 22 years gushing the London Cannon, the former French coach presented 17 prestigious trophies for Arsenal, including three Premier League trophies. Currently, Wenger who has turned 71 years old serves as FIFA's Director of Global Football Development.
Arteta turned out to have hopes of working with his former coach at Arsenal. According to him, Wenger's presence can provide great benefits, not only for Arsenal as a club, but also for the Gunners.
"I hope he can be at this club more often at this time. I think players will warmly welcome his presence. He can provide inspiration to the players. The club will also benefit greatly. After more than 20 years at Arsenal, of course he needs time to rest. However, I think both parties will benefit greatly if he is at this club," Arteta told Sky Sports , Wednesday (10/11).
In 2011, Wenger brought Arteta from Everton. The partnership between the two ended with Arteta's decision to hang up his boots in 2016. The former Arsenal midfielder and captain finally decided to work as a coach, starting with Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City. In December 2019, Arteta finally returned to Arsenal and was entrusted with the first team.
Arteta also revealed the big role Wenger played in his decision to pursue a career as a coach. Arteta said Wenger has a unique ability to transmit an understanding of the importance of a club to the players.
"If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be here and have this career. He's the reason I became coach. He's very good at convincing players of the importance of a club. He intrigued me. That's why I started studying and seriously took my license. coaching," said the 39-year-old coach.
