Atlanta Hawks President Travis Schlenk steps down from his role and trasition into the role of Senior Advisor..

The Atlanta Hawks announced on its official website on Wednesday that President Travis Schlenk will step down from his post and transition into the role of Senior Advisor with immediate effect.

According to the Hawks' official statement, Schlenk's role will change from then on to become a Special Advisor to the team's Principal Owner Tony Ressler.

In addition, the Hawks also added that the team's General Manager, Landry Fields, will take over Schlenk's duties and will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the team.

After the news of his transition to the team's Senior Consultant position was released, Schlenk wrote on the Atlanta Hawks official website that: "Throughout the season, Tony and I discussed some personal things I experienced and how I felt. I had many candid conversations with him, and I thank him for his advice and the opportunities he gave me. "

"Six seasons ago, I became General Manager for the first time. As we entered the new year, I felt it was time to take a step back, reflect and make my family a priority."

"I'm proud of the team I've put together at the base and the front office. We've laid a solid foundation for the Hawks and have had great success. I look forward to working with Tony and Landry as an advisor and to continue to contribute in less visible but still impactful ways."

The 46-year-old Schlenk joined the Hawks as General Manager in May 2017 and was promoted to President two years later.

As President, Schlenk played an important role in the team's rebuilding process, witnessing the team go from a 24-game winning streak in the 2017/18 season to the pinnacle of reaching the Eastern Conference Finals for the second time in 2021.

Under Schlenk, the Hawks drafted two-time All-Star and 2022 All-NBA guard Trae Young, All-Rookie selections John Collins and Kevin Huerter, and 2021 All-NBA Rising Star winner DeAndre Hunter.

Last season, the Hawks achieved 43 wins and 39 losses in the regular season and reached the finals of the NBA Eastern Conference playoffs. However, they lost to the Miami Heat in the fifth game of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs and was eliminated.
