BARCELONA - Barcelona are set to make another coup in the market this summer, by securing the services of Unai Hernández.

The Catalan giants confirmed on Saturday that the club had agreed to sign Hernández from newly-promoted Girona, with the youngster set to sign his contract and will initially join the club's famous La Masia youth ranks under the supervision of Youth Academy director, Joan Soler.

According to renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Hernández and Barcelona have reached verbal agreement over wage demand and contract length since Thursday. The player himself is ready to join the Blaugrana, though he will not be a part of the first team.

The 17-year-old is a central midfielder who currently plies his trade with Girona U17s. He had been making quite an impression in the youth divisions this year, and it could only be a matter of time before the youngster moves to Catalunya.

At the age of just 17, Hernández has a long way to go before he can be considered for the senior side.

But he has shown immense potential in the lower leagues and his signing can be attributed to Barcelona’s project of finding the “next Pedri” in light of the Spaniard’s unprecedented success over the past 12 months.

It now remains to be seen whether or not the teenage prospect can live up to his expectations and continue his rapid growth in Barcelona’s advanced training facility for the youth.

A host of Barcelona B players have managed to make their mark in the first team in recent years and there is no reason why Hernández cannot follow suit.
