Bek Kiri Benfica Jadi Alternatif buat City Jika Gagal Boyong Cucurella

Previously, Grimaldo was also reportedly included in Arsenal's radar.

MANCHESTER - Manchester City are claimed to have made the first maneuver to bring Marc Cucurella from Brighton and Hove Albion. Cucurella is a top priority for The Citizens in adding player options to the left back position.

The Spanish defender will also be plotted as a replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko, who is said to be releasing City to Arsenal. Both City and Arsenal have reportedly even reached an agreement on a move for the Ukrainian left-back for a transfer value of £32 million.

However, The Citizens' efforts to bring in Cucurella still encounter a steep road. Brighton have reportedly rejected the first offer from The Citizens to sign the former Spanish left-back.

In his first bid, City have offered a transfer value of 30 million pounds to The Seagulls. Brighton management immediately rejected the offer. The Seagulls just want to release a player who has only been grazing for one season in the English Premier League with a transfer value of not less than 50 million pounds.

The Citizens seem to have to work extra hard to persuade Brighton to release Cucurella. Even so, City are rumored to already have a number of alternative player options if they fail to bring Cucurella. Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa has reportedly been on City's radar.

Sosa is claimed to have a lower transfer price than Cucurella, which is £20 million. One of City's biggest obstacles in bringing Sosa in is the remaining duration of the Croatian left-back's contract with Stuttgart.

The 24-year-old left-back is still under contract with Stuttgart until 2025. This condition makes Stuttgart have a higher bargaining position when negotiating with City. At this point, another option exists for The Citizens. It is Benfica's left-back, Alejandro Grimaldo, who emerged as an alternative player for The Citizens.

Currently, Grimaldo's contract with Benfica has one year remaining. The Portuguese club is also in danger of losing the 26-year-old left-back on a free transfer in 2023.

With Grimaldo's contract status, it is not impossible for Benfica to release him in this summer's transfer window. Not only that, City's opportunity to bring Grimaldo is also wide open. The reason is, The Citizens reportedly have received the green light to recruit the Portuguese left-back.

''City became one of the English clubs who were given the opportunity to bring Grimaldo,'' wrote a report I News , Friday (22/7/2022).

Previously, Grimaldo was also rumored to be on Arsenal's radar. The Gunners' interest in Grimaldo is inseparable from the impressive performance of the alumni of the Barcelona youth team last season.

From 47 appearances in all competitions last season, Grimaldo managed to score six goals and contributed nine assists. However, along with positive signals in negotiations with Zinchenko, the Gunners prefer to bring Zinchenko from City.
