Borussia Mönchengladbach confirm Thuram will leave for free this summer

French striker Marcus Thuram, 25, will leave the club as a free agent this summer, Borussia Mönchengladbach confirmed on Monday.

Marcus Thuram is the son of legendary French defender Lilian Thuram. He can play as a center forward, right winger and left winger. He has played for Borussia Mönchengladbach since July 2019 and has made 124 appearances, 42 goals and 26 assists in three years.

The contract between Thuram Jr. and Borussia Mönchengladbach has only about 4 months left so far, and the two sides have never been able to reach a contract extension. Gladbach director Roland Virkus told Sport1 on Monday: "We have decided to let Thuram go. It is not a positive situation for a player to leave us on a free transfer and I cannot whitewash it."

"We have to admit that there is a high probability that he will move to a bigger club."

Manchester United and Chelsea are widely regarded as Thuram's next stop, but they may face stiff competition from Inter Milan. The Frenchman played 22 times for Borussia Mönchengladbach and 5 times for the French team this season, scoring a total of 14 goals and sending 4 assists.
