Carles Puyol Congratulations to Joan Laporta
2021-03-17 05:33BARCELONA - Former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol, congratulated club president Joan Laporta.
The 58-year-old was elected as Barca's new president after gaining a majority in last weekend's elections. The Catalan businessman served as president at the Camp Nou between 2003 and 2010.
During that period, Puyol was the captain of the team that helped Barca win four Spanish La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues. The former Spain international was with most of the club's icons during the announcement of the new president at midnight.
"Congratulations to Joan Laporta, good luck and success," said Puyol, quoted from Football-espana, Monday (8/3).
Laporta will join Ronald Koeman's squad, when they visit Paris to face Paris Saint-Germain in the middle of this week. He reportedly wants to give inspirational messages for Barcelona to turn things around in Paris. In addition, in his campaign, Laporta wants to focus on negotiations with Lionel Messi, so that he wants to extend his contract at Camp Nou.
