Pelatih tidak Mau PSM Terbawa Ritme Permainan Bali United

PSM wants to apply its style of play against Bali United.

DENPASAR -- Makassar PSM coach Bernardo Tavares said he did not want his players to be dragged into the rhythm of Bali United's game when the two teams met in the continuation of the Indonesian League 1 at Gelora BJ Habibie, Parepare, South Sulawesi, Friday (29/7/2022).

"I need my team to play according to what we want in the match, not to follow Balinese tactics," Tavares said at a pre-match press conference in Parepare, Thursday (28/7/2022).

Therefore, the Portuguese tactician stated that he would not instruct PSM players to carry out individual defense patterns or man to man throughout the match except in dead ball situations.

"I will only give man to man instructions at set pieces, but for man to man matches will not happen, because if we only assign one person to one person we will (only) play following them," he said.

On the same occasion, Tavares assessed that the match against Bali United would be a difficult match, considering that the team made by Stefano 'Teco' Cugura has won Liga 1 for two consecutive seasons. He also highlighted that Bali United had the advantage of playing with five foreign players, even though one of them had gone through the naturalization process.

"Bali United will be a big challenge because we played the champions last season. They will also play with five foreign players, although one of them has gone through the naturalization process," said Tavares.

The five players referred to by Tavares are Brwa Hekmat Nouri, Eber Bessa, Jean Befolo Mbarga, Willian Silva Costa Pacheco and Ilija Spasojevic. Spasojevic since 2017 has been an Indonesian citizen.

However, he is optimistic that his team will play well in the second match of Liga 1 2022-23. Because PSM players already know the style and strength of Bali United players.

On the same occasion, he also asked for the support of PSM supporters to fill the Gelora BJ Habibie Stadium to directly support the players while creating an atmosphere that can suppress the visitors at home. "I hope the atmosphere on the pitch, in the stadium will be good, and the fans will always support us," said Tavares.

PSM started the season with a 2-1 win over PSS Sleman at the Maguwoharjo Stadium last Saturday (23/7), and is currently in fifth place in the Liga 1 standings with three points.
