Coach Plays Down Speculation Of Ronaldo Returning To Sporting Lisbon
2022-07-31 00:36LISBON - Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim has played down speculation about the return of Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo. The 37-year-old is looking to leave Old Trafford this summer, just 12 months after returning to Man United from Juventus.
Clubs such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have refused to take the opportunity to sign Ronaldo this summer. Meanwhile, the five-time World Player of the Year (Ballon d'Or) has turned down a big-money offer to move to Saudi Arabia.
There is now debate over Ronaldo's potential return to Sporting, Ronaldo's club started as professionals in 2002. But Amorim has spoken openly to deny the speculation.
"Is Ronaldo an opportunity? I've heard that, I haven't read anything, I haven't seen anything. For me the reality is different, keeping my players," Amorim told reporters. ).
Ronaldo only spent one year with the senior Sporting team before joining Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2003. During his time at Sporting, he recorded five goals and six assists in 31 appearances in all competitions. Sporting will play in the Champions League this season and is perfect for Ronaldo who wants to play in that competition.
The reason MU did not play in the Champions League was a factor Ronaldo wanted to leave MU. However, it seems that returning home is not a real option so far. Atletico Madrid has recently emerged as a fan.
Ronaldo is also reportedly ready to take a pay cut to leave Manchester United. His agent Jorge Mendes plans to push his client closer to the Wanda Metropolitano. But Ronaldo's move depends on Atletico whether they are able to sell Antoine Griezmann or Alvaro Morata.
Man United coach Erik ten Hag wants Ronaldo to stay. But with Ronaldo's great desire to leave, Ten Hag could only surrender.
Ronaldo did not join the Man United entourage on the pre-season tour. And it is likely that talks between Ronaldo and Ten Hag will take place in the near future.
