Cristiano Ronaldo striker replacement

Manchester United are considering the teenager as a striker replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo following the termination of his contract. Meanwhile, Liverpool hope to keep Duran and Columbia Teammate Luis Diaz fought side by side.

England fellows Fulham and Brentford soon joined the chase for Duran. Then, on December 26, reports in Italy claimed that Aston Villa had placed themselves in a strong position to sign him.

And Unai Emery's side have now followed suit by agreeing a deal with the Chicago Fire. On Monday, they released the following statement: "Aston Villa can confirm that an agreement has been reached with the Chicago Fire for the permanent transfer of 19-year-old striker John Duran.

"The deal is contingent on the player passing a medical, agreeing to personal terms and obtaining the necessary work visa."

According to ESPN, the deal is worth $18 million, plus a potential bonus of $4 million. That means Villa could end up paying a package worth a total of £18m.

Duran will be Emery's second Villa signing after Alex Moreno and he will be one of the most expensive departures ever made by MLS.
