Cristiano Ronaldo Invited To Stay Faithful To MU
2022-07-23 22:43MELBOURNE - Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane has expressed his desire to keep seeing Cristiano Ronaldo in the Red Devils squad this season. The news of Ronaldo's departure is one of the rumors that arose from various news about United's activities in this summer's transfer window. The news of the departure of the five-time Ballon d'Or collector from United has continued to strengthen in recent weeks.
After rumors about Ronaldo's desire to leave the Red Devils because he would miss the Champions League stage this season, the former Real Madrid and Juventus star was also not included in United's squad for the pre-season tour. Varane, who is reunited with Ronaldo after seven seasons with Real Madrid, hopes the 37-year-old will stay at the Red Devils this season.
''Cristiano is a player who can provide extraordinary competition. He is a legend and can help this team. So, it would be very good if he continues to strengthen this team,''said Varane as quoted by BBC Sport International, Friday (22/7/2022).
The 29-year-old centre-back also revealed that the debate about Ronaldo's contribution was never discussed in the dressing room. Apart from the goals scored by Ronaldo last season, the Portuguese star was seen as disturbing the balance of United's game in his debut season in his second chance with the Red Devils.
For some, the departure of Ronaldo can actually provide a distinct advantage for the new United coach, Erik ten Hag, in rebuilding United. However, other parties think that Ronaldo's ability to complete attacks is still needed by the Red Devils this season.
''The debate only happened outside the dressing room. We know the quality of him (Ronaldo). We also know, he is so famous. So, we are aware, there will be many parties linking the performance of the team as a whole with his performance,''said the French centre-back.
Like Ronaldo, who came to United at the start of last season, Varane also decided to leave Real Madrid to join the Red Devils at the start of last season.
However, after resounding success with Real Madrid, Varane has had a rather disappointing season with the Red Devils. The former Lens centre-back has only appeared in 27 games in all competitions. Not only that, United also recorded a record for the lowest points in the history of participation in the English Premier League.
The Red Devils finally had to settle for finishing sixth in the English Premier League last season and had to miss the Champions League stage this season. Varane also emphasized that he never regretted choosing to leave Los Blancos and join the Red Devils.
“No, absolutely not. In football, you have to challenge yourself and try to improve. The Premier League is fantastic and Manchester United is a big club. No regrets about the decision,''said Varane.
