Croatia international Dejan Lovren announces retirement from national team

Dejan Lovren announced his retirement from the national team on his social media account and will no longer play for Croatia.


Lovren wrote: "Dear national team, dear fans, I would like to tell you a piece of sad news, but trust me, it was a decision made after careful consideration. It was difficult for me, I'm trying not to cry as I write this, but you guys know me well and I'm someone who doesn't hide my emotions."


"The day has come when I have to say goodbye to the Croatian national team, although I still consider myself a loyal supporter of Croatia and will always cheer for the Croatian national team."

Now 33, Lovren has played 78 times for Croatia in the past, scoring 5 goals. In October 2009, Lovren made his debut for the national team at the age of 9. Lovren's last game for the national team was a 0-3 loss to Argentina in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar .
