Derby defeat puts Haaland's impact on Man City under scrutiny (Part 2)

The huge goal count seems to have come at the expense of City's overall performance. After 18 rounds, they accumulated 39 points, 5 points less than in the same period last season , conceded twice as many goals as last season, but scored 2 more goals.

Haaland 's arrival also meant fewer goals for the rest of the squad. City 's second-leading scorer was Phil Foden , with Julian Alvarez and Kevin De Bruyne following with three each.

When City beat Liverpool to the title last season, De Bruyne was the team's top scorer with 15 league goals , while Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez had 13 and 11 respectively . Eight players scored seven or more goals.

Former midfielder Dietmar Hamann claimed City were " a better team without Haaland even if he scored 40 goals this season " after the derby .

However, Guardiola insists his side are still playing as he wishes. " I would say the inconsistency was in results rather than performance, " he said.
