Despite running well, Fulham are only focused on survival, says Silva
2023-02-17 11:54Coach Marco Silva said on Thursday that Fulham's goals for the season will not change despite their impending move to European competition, with the focus on staying in the Premier League.
Silva's side sit seventh in the league standings on 35 points after beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Saturday , the same level as they face Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
A win at the Amex Stadium will move them closer to a Europa League qualifying place in fifth.
Despite exceeding expectations, the Portuguese coach said the main goal for the champions (second tier) last season remained the points needed to secure safety.
" We will not change, it's not a lack of ambition, " Silva told a news conference on Thursday.
" We will not change the target. We have a points target within the club. We will not change our target until we achieve it. I will be the first to create another one.
" If we haven't achieved our main goal, it doesn't matter now to say we're going to fight for something different. "
keep measuring, keep keeping the team
Fulham lost to Atletico Madrid in the 2010 Europa League final . Despite having the chance to play in the competition for the first time since the 2011-12 season, Silva called on fans to stay measured and continue to support the team no matter the outcome.
" The only thing I ask of the fans is to always be with the team, not only in the good moments but also in the bad moments, " said the 45 -year-old coach.
" The mood is totally different. But if something happens in the future, I hope so too.
" Football is so easy when you win games and keep the sheets clean. Everything is so beautiful, but football isn't always like that. "
