Edinson Cavani joins Valencia on a free transfer following contract expiration with Manchester United..

Valencia announced on its official website last night that Uruguay international center forward Edinson Cavani has joined the club for a free transfer after his contract expired with Manchester United this summer.

According to Valencia's official statement, Cavani signed a two-year short-term contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2024.

The 35-year-old Cavani was born on February 14, 1987 in Salto, Uruguay. He is 1.84 meters tall and has dual nationalities of Uruguay and Italy. Cavani came through the youth system of the Uruguayan Primera División side Danubio. He was promoted to the first team in 2005, completing his first team debut in the same year and helped the club win theUruguayan Primera División title the following year.

After 2 good seasons with Danubio, Cavani joined Palermo for €4million in January 2007. Since then, he has spent his long career playing solely in Europe. After two seasons of slow start, Cavani finally welcomed his breakout year in the 2008/09 season and couldn't stop scoring ever since.

In the summer of 2010, Cavani joined Napoli initially on loan before his deal being made permanent, and began to experience the taste of playing in European competitions consistently. After arriving at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, Cavani's goalscoring efficienty went up a few levels.

In the three years while playing for I Partonopei, Cavani scored at least 33 Serie A goals consecutively, and also led the team to win 1 Coppa Italia title.

In the summer of 2013, Cavani switched to Paris Saint-Germain for  €64 million, reuniting with his former teammate Ezequiel Lavezzi once again. Even after the arrival of Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Instead of dropping, Cavani's performances and improved even greatly. From 2016 to 2018 alone, he would score at least 40 goals in all competitions for the club every year. However, after Le Parisien shifted their focus on developing Mbappé and Neymar, as well as after being robbed of a chance to convert a penaltyby the latter, Cavani chose to leave the French super club after his contract expired in the summer of 2020.

During this period, he had won 6 Ligue 1, 6 Cope de la Ligue, 5 Coupe de France and 4 Trophée des Champions with the titles club.

After leaving Paris Saint-Germain, Cavani joined Manchester United as a free agent. Due to injuries, even though the Uruguayan striker led the club to the Europa League final in his first season with the Red Devils, his goalscoring efficiency and performances have declined.

Last season, after Cristiano Ronaldo's return, Cavani, who continued to be plagued by injuries, had his role at the Premier League giants further reduced, so much so he can only watch on as a substitute.

At the international level, Cavani has represented Uruguay's senior national team since February 2008, and three years later he led the nation to 2011 Copa América glory.

By playing in La Liga, this also means that Cavani will join the lists of stars who had played in 4 of Europe's Top-5 leagues, having played in the highest league of Italy, France, England and now Spain in his career.
