Erik Ten Hag admits: To challenge for the title next season, the club must invest
2023-05-29 09:21Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag has told Manchester United that if they want to challenge for the title next season, they must invest in quality players this summer.
In the January transfer window, United did not invest heavily in the squad, mainly loaning Walter Verhorst, Marcel Sabitzer and Jack Butland. However, other clubs in the Premier League have strengthened with new arrivals during this period.
But even if Manchester United did not strengthen their lineup too much, they managed to rank third in the Premier League table, 15 points behind champions Manchester City. In an interview, Ten Hag said: "The club needs to know that if it wants to squeeze into the top four in the league and win the championship, it must invest. Otherwise there is no chance, because other clubs will do the same. Only a few investments have been made in the window, clubs around us have made huge investments."
"Even though we didn't, we managed to finish in the top four, so I'm very proud of my team," Ten Hag added.
Manchester United will play against Manchester City in the FA Cup final on June 3. Manchester United has defeated Manchester City, so Ten Hag is still confident about this event. "In football you always have a chance and we beat them in January," Tenhag said.
"We've also beaten Manchester City a number of times over the last few years. So when the players play at their level, they can compete. Obviously we're up against a good team, but We still have chances and we will give everything to take them. I am sure we will have a good game."
