Football News | Watford sign Canadian midfielder Kone from Montreal
2022-12-06 12:27Canadian midfielder Ismail Kone will join Championship side Watford this winter from CF Montreal.
Kone was close to joining Norwich City earlier this year, only to have the deal fall through due to financial disagreements between the two clubs.
But the interest in the player has not disappeared. According to 90 Minutes, Watford have won the race to sign Kone, with the player undergoing a successful medical and signing a long-term contract. CF Montreal will pay a club-record fee for Kone's transfer.
Kone played as a substitute in all of Canada's World Cup Group F games against Belgium, Croatia and Morocco, and has nine caps for the national team.
Canada advanced to the World Cup finals for the first time in 36 years, but Qatar suffered a three-game losing streak.
Watford are fourth in the Championship.
A big win for Watford
The move is a big win for Watford , with the Hornets securing Kone's future even in the face of serious interest from Europe's top five leagues, Dutch clubs and other Championship sides.
Kone has made 32 appearances for the Montreal club, scoring 4 goals and providing 5 assists, while he has 8 appearances for Canada .
