Football news - Erlanga 'understands' Manchester United team-mate Ronaldo's views on young players

Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo's criticism of young players is understandable, says team - mate Anthony Erlanga .

Earlier this week, Ronaldo told TalkTV that young players " have easier things, everything is easy, they don't suffer and they don't care. "

Asked if the interview affected his relationship with Ronaldo, Erlanga told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet , " Not so much. He was still Cristiano Ronaldo to me when we met. "

The 20 -year-old added that Ronaldo has helped him on and off the pitch since returning to Old Trafford for the second time in 2021 . " He inspired not only me but all the young players at Manchester United, " said the Sweden international.

" I think he's talking about young players in general. We're a new generation, but I'm always focused on what I'm doing. But I understand him. It's a lot of phones, a lot of technology and stuff like that.

" It's easy for young players to lose focus but I'm always 100 per cent focused on what I'm doing. I think the young players at Manchester United listen but I get his point. "

Ronaldo leaves Manchester United

In the wide-ranging interview, Ronaldo also said United had betrayed him and claimed he was forced to leave the club.

United said this week they would respond to Ronaldo's comments that he felt betrayed by the club and would only be forced to leave when the full facts were found.

The club added on Friday that they had taken " appropriate steps " to respond to Ronaldo's interview.
