Greece international goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos signed new long-term contract extension with Benfica..

Benfica announced on their official website on Thursday that the club has renewed the contract with Greece international goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.

According to Benfica's official statement, Vlachodimos has signed a new long-term four-year deal with the club which will run until the summer of 2027.

After completing his contract renewal procedures, Vlachodimos, who was interviewed by the official website of Benfica again said: "First of all, I am very happy to be able to renew my contract with this amazing club. I feel very good because my family and I have enjoyed staying here (Lisbon and Benfica), so I am very happy to renew and stay at Benfica."

"I'm really impressed with everything the the club has left on me! All I can say is that my family and I feel great in Portugal, we love the country, we love Benfica, and we're happy to be here here."

"So far, we have done well in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and the Champions League. We can be proud of the team, but the season is not over and we have to move on. On Sunday we will play an important game against Maritimo. We will do our best to get the three points."

The 28-year-old Vlachodimos was born in Stuttgart, Germany on April 26, 1994. He is 1.91 meters tall and serves as a goalkeeper. His brother Panagiotis is a former Greece U21s international player in Greece and is currently playing for Dinamo Dresden as a winger. Vlachodimos joined the VfB Stuttgart youth academy at the age of seven before making his first-team debut in August 2015.

However, the good times didn't last long. Due to different ideas and falling out with then coach head Jurgen Kramny, Vlachodimos could only sit on the bench for many times in the future, which made him thought about leaving.

At the end of January 2016, Vlachodimos moved to Panathinaikos to reunite with his elder brother. Soon after joining, he began to establish himself as the main goalkeeper and began to attract the attention of bigger clubs outside the country with his superb performances.

In July 2018, Vlachodimos joined Benfica for €2.4 million.

Since joining, Vlachodimos has performed better and better with the team and has won 1 Portuguese Primeira Liga and 1 Portuguese Super Cup. Although he was pursued by big clubs and giants such as Newcastle United, Leicester City, Ajax and Atlético Madrid, he always stuck by As Águias and did not leave the club.

So far this season, Vlachodimos has made 41 appearances in all competitions for Benfica, conceding 27 goals and keeping clean sheets 22 times.
