IFAB Changes Handball Problem Rules

The biggest change in the rules regarding handball was made by the attacking team.

ZURICH - The International Football Association Board (IFAB) changed the rules regarding violations caused by players touching the ball with their hands or handball in a match. One of the biggest changes to the handball rules relates to the handball being played by the attacking team.

The body that regulates and determines the rules for international football matches has considered that so far the application of handball rules is considered inconsistent between one competition and another, or between one match and another. This condition made IFAB make a number of changes to the handball rules.

"The interpretation of the handball rules is often inconsistent due to the inaccuracy of the application of these rules on the field. Therefore, IFAB members stated, not all ball incidents involving a player's hand or arm can be categorized as a violation," wrote the official IFAB statement as reported by Football Italia , Saturday. (6/3).

One of the basic criteria that referees can use to judge whether a handball incident can be categorized as a foul is the position of the player's hands and arms when touching the ball. If the position of a person's hand or arm makes the "body size" unnaturally larger in a move, the referee may judge the condition as a handball foul.

In general, a player can be categorized as doing handball if he deliberately touches the ball by moving his hand or arm in the direction of the ball. In addition, players are judged to do handball if they make their "body size" bigger due to the movement of their hands when making certain movements.

A ball that enters the opponent's goal after hitting a player's hand, whether intentionally or unintentionally, will be considered not a goal due to a handball violation. However, one of the changes that IFAB made in the handball rules was when there was a // handball // incident in the process of a goal by the attacking team.

" An accidental handball by a player who has carried out an attack, which results in a goal scored by a teammate, or increases the chances of a goal being scored, is not considered a foul," read the official IFAB statement.

This change in handball rules has actually been one of IFAB's main agendas since last December. Apart from changing the handball rules, IFAB also plans to evaluate and change the offside rules. In particular, the new handball rules will be officially applied in the UK on 1 July.
