Indonesia U-16 National Team Ready to Continue Victory

Indonesia's chances of qualifying for the semifinals are wide open.

SLEMAN -- The Indonesian U-16 national football team (National Team) started the AFF U-162022 A Cup Group preliminary match with a 2-0 victory over the Philippines, at the Maguwoharjo Stadium, Sleman, Yogyakarta, Sunday (31/7). This result makes Indonesia's chances of qualifying for the semifinals wide open.

Arkhan Kaka became Indonesia's hero in the match. He was involved in both goals. The first goal due to Jared Alexander's own goal came from the wrong anticipation of Arkhan's pass from the right side.

Arkhan then closed the first half with the score 2-0 thanks to his goal in the 37th minute. He was able to take advantage of a pass from the left side well before making a shot that broke into the Philippines goal.

The Indonesian national team coach Bima Saktime saw that there were many opportunities created by his team, but failed to produce a goal. That is understandable because it is only the first match of an international competition. However, Bima was grateful that his troops could win the match.

"The key to winning is teamwork," said Bima after the match.

Bima added that there are still several points that need to be evaluated. According to him, there is time to rest and fix deficiencies to face Singapore.

Scorer for Indonesia, Arkhan Kaka said the victory over the Philippines was thanks to good teamwork. All the players, coaches and coaching staff did a great job.

Singapore's 1-5 defeat to Vietnam in the opening match can be used by Indonesia when they clash with each other, at the Maguwoharjo Stadium, Wednesday (3/8). Singapore's defeat with a landslide score indicates that there are many gaps for Arkhan and his friends to score against the opponent's goal.

Bima said he would prepare as best he could to face Singapore. He has even sent his staff to monitor Singapore's match against Vietnam.

According to Bima, monitoring the opponent's strength directly is something that is normal for the coach and his staff in order to win the match. "So I think it's reasonable," said Bima.

Indonesia's match against the Philippines was monitored directly by the coaches of Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. In response to this, Bima did not want to be bothered by something natural.

Bima is grateful that the team he cares for is currently filled with players with equal strength. It's different from 2019. At that time only Marcelino Ferdinand stood out.

As the host, Indonesia has a big advantage over other teams, namely the presence of supporters. The fighting spirit of the Garuda Muda squad is expected to increase against Singapore. In addition, the victory in the opening match also strengthened the mentality of the players made by Bima Sakti.

Indonesia now sits in second place in Group A with three points from one match. Indonesia's points are the same as Vietnam's, however, the home team lost on goal difference. Meanwhile, Singapore is in the most distended position.
