Italy international defensive midfielder swap Chelsea for fierce city rivals Arsenal..

Arsenal announced on their official website on Tuesday that the club has signed Italy international defensive midfielder Jorginho from Chelsea.

According to Arsenal's official statement, Jorginho has signed on a short-term one-and-a-half-year deal with the club which only runs until the summer of 2024. At the same time, he will also wear the No. 20 jersey vacated by the teenager Nuno Tavares who left to join Marseille on-loan last summer.

After completing his joining procedures, Jorginho, who was interviewed by Arsenal's official website for the first time said: "I am very excited about this new challenge. To be honest, I can't wait to play! Everything happened too fast. I was a little surprised, but I jumped at this incredible opportunity to take on a new challenge."

"It's an important shirt. It's a fantastic club, a very big club and I'm really excited and happy to be here."

The 31-year-old Jorginho was born in Imbituba, Brazil on December 20, 1991. He is 1.78 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder.

Jorginho immigrated to Italy at the age of 15 and began to fall in love with football with the encouragement of his mother. Soon after, Jorginho joined the Hellas Verona youth academy. During this time, he was scammed by his former agent and considered quitting football. Later, he got through the disappointment and did not give up his football dream because of the comfort and persuasion of his family. .

Jorginho officially completed his Heras Verona first-team debut in September 2011, and slowly established himself as a key player, helping the club to be promoted to Serie A in the 2012/13 season as a runner-up.

Jorginho, who still performed well after the promotion, moved to Napoli in January 2014 for €11 million.

After joining the I Partonopei, under the guidance of former head coach Maurizio Sarri, Jorginho has become one of the best world-class midfielders in football today. During this time, he also won 1 Coppa Italia and 1 Supercoppa Italiana with the club.

In July 2018, Jorginho followed in Sarri's footsteps and moved to the Premier League to join Chelsea at a price of £57 million.

During the 4 and a half years of playing for the Blues, Jorginho led his team to win 1 Champions League, 1 Europa League, 1 UEFA Super Cup and 1 FIFA Club World Cup. Likewise, he also successfully led the Italy national team won the 2020 EUROs, a period which can be said to have ushered in the most peak experience of his career.

During the first half of this season, Jorginho played 25 times for Chelsea in all competitions and scored 3 goals.

It is worth mentioning that Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta actually wanted to sign Jorginho when he was still an assistant coach of Manchester City many years ago, but the two have not been able to work togehter him due to various factors over the years. It was until now that this wish has truly been realized.

In addition, Arsenal's hierarchy originally only listed Jorginho as the second transfer target in this January's transfer window. According to multiple sources, the Gunners originally wanted to bring in Brighton's Ecuador international midfielder wonderkid Moises Caicedo.

A few days ago, the BBC claimed that Arsenal had twice offered Brighton £70 million to buy Caicedo, but both offers were rejected by the Seagulls.
