Ivory Coast beat Nigeria 2-1 to win third African title

The home team of Cote d'Ivoire completed an unforgettable comeback in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, beating Nigeria 2-1 to win its third African championship in Abidjan.

Nigeria captain and former Watford centre-back William Troost -Ekong scored a surprise header in the 38th minute to put the Super Eagles ahead at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium .

In the 61st minute, Frank Casey grabbed the point from the far end and succeeded with a header to equalize the score.

In the last group match against Equatorial Guinea, the Cote d'Ivoire team was defeated 0-4 and seemed destined to be eliminated early. However, they luckily advanced to the knockout rounds and then defeated Senegal, Mali and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

But Sebastien Allais once again caught Adingra's cross in the 81st minute and brilliantly swept the winning goal into the goal. This was his most important contribution to the Ivory Coast team.

It was an emotional moment for the former West Ham striker. After being diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2022, he struggled to get back on his feet and will now go down in history along with all Ivorians, leaving a lasting mark as they lifted the Africa Cup of Nations for a third time.
