Lampard confident of Chelsea's revival after dismal season

Frank Lampard believes Chelsea will come back stronger next season after a dismal season, the interim boss said ahead of his last two Premier League games on Wednesday.

Chelsea sit 12th on 43 points on Thursday and face fourth-placed Manchester United, who are in contention for a Champions League place.

Chelsea won the Champions League in 2021 and will end the season without a trophy despite their new American side spending heavily on new players.

Lampard told reporters: " There's a lot more to do to get to the bottom of it. The club has to explore every factor and make sure it doesn't happen again. "

" It can be a long process in my experience, when you turn something off, it's not easy to turn it back on. "

However, Lampard is optimistic that Chelsea have the right structure.

Lampard said: " When you look at the good models around you that have consistency in those areas and decisions and how clubs go forward, they're usually the more successful clubs .

" Where we are at the moment, it's going to be a process of work trying to see where we're aligned, where we want to get to and what that looks like. "

Urge players to show fighting spirit

Lampard, who is set to step down as interim manager at the end of the season, has urged his players to show commitment to Manchester United.

" The players have to show that individually and collectively there is something to this game, " Lampard said .

" We have to go against a good team with a really good mentality and they are fighting for what we have had for years and now we don't have it. "

Lampard says striker João Felix will be back after missing Manchester City's defeat, but France defender Benoit Badiahill will be out for " months, not weeks " .

Chelsea striker Raheem Sterling , who made 82 appearances , has been left out of England's squad for Euro 2024 qualifiers next month.

" Raheem is a top player and I know sometimes these games at the end of the season are a different challenge than those who have played a lot, " Lampard said.

" So if the two (Sterling and England manager Southgate) talk to each other then I'm sure they'll find the right outcome , best for England and best for Raheem. "
