ROME - Italian League club Lazio has reportedly opened communication with former Real Madrid full-back Marcelo in the player transfer market this summer. Quoted from Italian Football, Thursday (21/7/2022), Marcelo is currently a free agent after his contract was not extended by Real Madrid when his contract expired at the end of last month.

It is estimated that Marcelo would be happy to play under coach Maurizio Sarri at Lazio and will seek a three-year contract worth 2.5 million euros (around Rp38 billion) per season. Lazio's move to try to land Marcelo is allegedly a response from their city rivals AS Roma who have signed star player Paulo Dybala in the transfer market this summer.

In addition, Marcelo is believed to be the right filler in the Lazio left-back sector which is now occupied by Albanian Elseid Hysaj. Lazio are seriously considering the transfer of Marcelo, but the Biancocelesti's main consideration is the physical condition of the 34-year-old.

Last season Marcelo played only 12 La Liga matches, five of which he started as a starter. A muscle injury and a left shoulder problem have kept the Brazilian out of action more often than he played last season.

The player whose full name is Marcelo Vieira da Silva Junior was brought in by Real Madrid from Brazilian club Fluminense in January 2007 for a transfer fee of 6.5 million euros (about Rp. 99 billion). Coming to the Santiago Bernanbeu at the age of 18, Marcelo spent nearly 15 successful years at Real Madrid, making 544 appearances, scoring 38 goals and 103 assists from a total of 43,139 minutes played.
