Leicester City defender Çağlar Söyüncü reportedly reached pre-contract agreement to join Atlético Madrid on a free transfer after contract expires this summer..

Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, brought the exclusive news on Thursday that Leicester City's Turkrey international center-back Çağlar Söyüncü has reached a pre-contract agreement to join Atlético Madrid as a free agent after his contract expires this summer.

According to Romano's report, Söyüncü had already reached a verbal agreement with Atléti since the end of January. He will sign a long-term four-year deal with the club which will run until the summer of 2027. The deal will be completed when the La Liga giants make an official announcement on their official website.

The 26-year-old Çağlar Söyüncü is born on May 23, 1996 in Izmir, Turkey. He is 1.85 meters tall and plays as a central defender.

Söyüncü played for youth academies of many local non-league clubs in Turkey when he was young. After being released in the summer of 2014, he joined the Turkish First Division side Altınordu and completed his first-team debut in September of the same year.

In July 2016, Söyüncü transferred to Freiburg for €8 million euros, becoming the first player to transfer directly from the Turkish First Division to the Bundesliga in the league's history. During this spell, he was noticed by many big clubs such as Manchester City, Beşiktaş, Lille and many more due to his good performances.

However, he chose to join Leicester City for £20 million in August 2018.

Originally performed well and was even once linked with a move to Arsenal, his form began to decline seriously in 2020, to the point that his key player status in the team was greatly reduced.

Among them, his performance with the Turkey national team during the 2020 UEFA EUROs was even worse.

This season, with the arrival of Wout Faes and the rise of James Justin, Söyüncü, whose status has been completely obliterated, only had the opportunity to play 7 times for the Premier League club in all competitions, without scoring any goals or making any assists.
