Leicester City reportedly interested in signing Fiorentina

Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano, the two renowned Italian transfer journalists of the Sky Sports, both reported on Tuesday that Leicester City is interested in signing Fiorentina's Argentina international forward Nicolás González.

According to Di Marzio and Romano, Leicester City has submitted an offer of £30 million pounds to Fiorentina to buy González in the past 24 hours at local time, but so far, La Viola has not officially respond to the offer from the Foxes, as they wanted to make an assessment with the club's Director of Football first before deciding whether to accept Leicester City's offer.

Leicester City, whose financial resources have been greatly reduced by the impact of the COVID-19 this season, has slipped to the current predicament of suffering a 4-game losing streak in all competitions, after a strong rebound from mid-October to early November.

In addition to suffering unstable forms of Wales international goalkeeper Danny Ward and defensive new signing Wout Faes, the biggest problem for the Premier League's most surprising champion in the past is the collective misfiring of Jamie Vardy, Ayoze Perez and Patson Daka, the three main forwards, and could only win by relying on James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans to provide firepower.

However, since Fiorentina is currently focusing on securing a European compeition spot and preparing to win the UEFA Europa Conference League, La Viola has reasons not to let González leave the club easily, moreover because he had just won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with Argentina not long ago, Leicester City may have to pay more than £30 million in order to be able to sign González.

The 24-year-old González came from through Argentinos Juniors' youth academy, and after leading the club to win the Argentine Second Division championship in 2017, he moved to Stuttgart in 2018.

In the summer of 2021, González joined Fiorentina for 24.5 million euros. This season, González has represented this Serie A powerhouse in 11 appearances across all competitions and scored 5 goals.
