Luis Suarez scores twice but Atletico Madrid 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo in 89th minute


Atletico Madrid dropped points for the first time In the 22nd round of La Liga since losing to Real Madrid on Dec last year, but now have 51 from 20 games and lead second-placed Barcelona and champions Real, who are third, by eight points.


Luis Suarez scoring twice but Celta Vigo finally equalised by Facundo Ferreyra in a 2-2 draw which interrupted the Atletico Madrid' eight-game winning streak.


Atletico were missing six players due to COVID-19, including record signing Joao Felix, and they fell behind the opponent in the 13th minute, when Santi Mina scored a heading in front of the goal to turn home a cross from Hugo Mallo.


Both sides were in a tug-of-war until the 45th minute, when Luis Suarez equalised for Atletico after Marcos Llorente cross.


Atletico took the lead just five minutes after the break, contributed by Suarez' second goal as he received Renan Lodi ball.


The strike increased Suarez's lead at the top of the Liga goalscoring charts with 16 goals, becoming the player with the most goals in his first 17 league games for a single club in La Liga in this century.


Celta pulled level in the 89th through forward Ferreyra, who had only been on the pitch for 13 minutes after joining the club earlier this month as a free agent.
