Matarazzo returns as Hoffenheim coach with a two-and-a-half-year contract

Pellegrino Matarazzo, 45, is the new head coach of Hoffenheim. According to the contract, his term will end in June 2025.

Coaching Hoffenheim this time means that Matarazzo has returned to his old place after 3 years. In July 2017, Matarazzo was appointed as the Hoffenheim U17 coach, and was promoted to the first-team assistant coach half a year later.

In December 2019, Matarazzo was hired as Stuttgart coach. He was eventually fired in October 2022, with a coaching record of 31 wins, 29 draws and 40 losses.

"The right man for the coaching position"

Sporting director Alexander Rosen believes Matarazzo would be the right man to coach Hoffenheim. "Rino not only knows our club, but he also knows a large part of the team from his own experience. In turn, we also know him, so we are convinced that he is the right man for the managerial position," Rosen said.

"In addition to leading the Stuttgart team to a further step, he also proved his quality in the relegation battle. He can bear the pressure and knows what it takes to be a coach. With his game philosophy, his football concept and his way of doing things, He fits 100 per cent with Hoffenheim."

"Approach tasks with enthusiasm and great confidence"

Hoffenheim currently ranks 14th in the Bundesliga with a record of 5 wins, 4 draws, 11 losses and 19 points. Matarazzo said that he will be committed to leading the team out of the predicament: "The situation is undoubtedly challenging, but I have no doubts in the quality of the team and I will approach this task with enthusiasm and great confidence. .”

"Because I've lived in the area since 2017, even after my transfer, I've seen the development of Hoffenheim up close and because of my past at the club, I've been following its situation very closely."

"Hoffenheim represent attacking, brave and fresh football. I want to get the team back to playing the way they have played for many years as soon as possible. They have been impressive on the pitch this season."
