MU Reaffirms Will Not Sell Cristiano Ronaldo
2022-07-11 11:35JAKARTA -- Manchester United (MU) reiterates that Cristiano Ronaldo will not be sold, even though they are currently targeting RB Leipzig striker Brian Brobbey. The move, according to United's camp, is not a sign of softening its stance on Ronaldo, sources have told ESPN.
Erik Ten Hag is an admirer of Brobbey, having scored seven goals in Ajax's 13 games last season on loan from RB Leipzig. But even if Brobbey could be withdrawn, United have maintained their stance that Ronaldo will not be sold in the transfer market this summer.
Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United because he wants to appear in the Champions League. He has not returned to training and is not part of the Red Devils squad that landed in Bangkok, Saturday (9/7/2022) yesterday. Ronaldo reasoned that he continued to deal with family problems.
ESPN sources say United have not put a timeframe on when the 37-year-old should rejoin the squad.
United are also still hunting for Frenkie de Jong and Lisandro Martinez, while club officials have also been contacted by Paulo Dybala's agent about the possibility of signing the Argentine forward on a free transfer.
Ten Hag has flown to Thailand with only one new player in his squad, namely left-back Tyrell Malacia who was bought for 12.9 million pounds from Feyenoord.
On the other hand, United are confident Christian Eriksen will move to Old Trafford despite the suggestion that Brentford will be the Danish international's destination, sources have told ESPN. Eriksen has verbally agreed to a three-year contract with United but is not part of the squad departing for their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank has also said he will fight hard to re-sign the midfielder after his success there last season, but ESPN sources say Eriksen has made up his mind. Eriksen will soon undergo a medical and could still join United on their pre-season tour of Melbourne.
