OFFICIAL: Cadiz renews Jose Mari's contract until 2025

Cadiz announced on Sunday the extension of Jose Mari's contract until June 30, 2025.

"The first-team captain has therefore extended his current contract for a further season," the club said in a statement.

Jose Mari is 35 years old and plays the role of a midfielder on the field. He has played for Cadiz since July 2016 and has played a total of 155 times so far, scoring 3 goals and sending 5 assists.

Cadiz's contract renewal announcement came after Mari suffered a serious injury to show support for the captain. Jose Mari was injured less than a quarter of an hour after his debut against Valencia in the 16th round of La Liga. In the 81st minute, he was tackled by Yunus Musah and then carried away on a stretcher for treatment.

After examination by the Cadiz team doctor, it was confirmed that Mari had torn the lateral meniscus of his right knee and had to undergo surgery. "The player is expected to be out for four months," Cadiz declared in his injury report.

Cadiz is already stretched in the position of the midfielder, and Mari's current injury is worse for Sergio Gonzalez Soriano. However, according to reports from Diario de Cádiz, the club does not want to look for replacements in the winter transfer market, but trusts Alex Fernandez, Ruben Alcaraz, Fede San Emeterio, Youba Diarra, or another midfielder in the team.
