OFFICIAL: Chelsea extend Thiago Silva's contract until 2024

On Friday, Chelsea once again extended the contract period of Brazilian defender Thiago Silva until June 30, 2024.

Thiago Silva is 38 years old and will move from Paris Saint-Germain to the Blues in 2020 due to the expiration of his contract. He played 106 times for Chelsea, scored 5 goals and sent 4 assists. He is also the main member of the Blues to win the Champions League, Club World Cup and European Super Cup from 2020 to 2022.

Affected by his age, the Brazilian only made 24 appearances this season, during which he sent 2 assists.

“A very special experience”

Thiago Silva said after completing his contract extension that he could hardly believe he will spend his fourth season at Chelsea. "I am very happy to continue my career with the Blues," he said.

"When I signed my first contract here, I was only on it for one year. Now it's the fourth year! It's unimaginable, but it's been a very long time for me to sign and stay at Chelsea. A special experience."

"A world-class talent"

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly is also confident in Thiago Silva. He said, "We are delighted that Thiago has decided to stay at Chelsea. He is a world-class talent, and his performances for club and national team have proved this over the years. His experience, quality and leadership are very important to Chelsea. Our vision for the future is critical."

"We are delighted that he has completed his contract extension with us and we look forward to even more success with him in the future!"
