Official: Lens and Medina extend their contract until 2026

Following Wesley Said, Argentine defender Facundo Medina also extended his contract with Lens until 2026.

"The contract extension is a symbol of the relationship of trust between the club and the Argentina international," Lens said in a statement.

Lens, currently ranked second in Ligue 1, is Medina's first stop in Europe. In July 2020, the Argentine joined Lens from Talleres for 3.5 million euros. So far, he has played a total of 78 times, scored 5 goals and sent 2 assists.

Speech by Arnaud Pouille

Arnaud Pouille believes that Medina's renewal is symbolic in several ways. "Simple, authentic, with a strong desire to move forward, Facundo is a player who fits 100 percent with the club," he told state media.

"Lens is his first club outside of Argentina and we are proud to be his first host family in Europe."

"Facundo embodies the combination between day-to-day team cohesion and the will to perform at the weekend. For Facundo to renew his contract, the collective joy that took precedence over the official and spontaneously generated is a testament to his importance to the club," concluded Pouille.

What's next for Lens

In addition to renewing Medina's contract, Lens is still negotiating with the team's defender Jonathan Gradit and center Florian Sotoca. Both of their existing contracts expire next summer and the club hopes to extend their contracts until 2026.
