OFFICIAL: Lens signs Paris FC defender Cardinal on a contract until June 2025

Ligue 1 has just entered the 6-week World Cup offseason, and Lens signed 25-year-old defender Julian Le Cardinal from Paris FC (Ligue 2).

It is reported that Cardinal is worth 3 million euros and the contract is signed until June 2025. One of his former clubs, Bastia, will receive a commission of more than 1 million euros from the deal.

Julian Le Cardinal mainly plays as a right back, but can also play as a central defender and a right midfielder. On July 1, 2022, Cardinal was sold to Paris FC by Bastia for 600,000 euros. In 4 months, he made 13 appearances and scored 1 goal.

For Lens, Cardinal's main role in the team is as a substitute for right midfielder Jimmy Cabot, who suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee in the 11th round of Ligue 1 against Montpellier. At this time, Cardinal's versatility on the defensive end provided Lens with another possibility, prompting him to finally make the decision to replace Cabot with Cardinal.

Lens general manager Arnaud Pouille welcomed Cardinal: "We are delighted to welcome Julian to our ranks. Given the player's character and values, we had a long exchange with his former club. I want to pay tribute to his commitment and loyalty."

"Julian presents a unique image that we love - he is not an academic player, he has a strong drive across the hierarchy and goes all out for any high-level game."
