Official: Renard resigns as Saudi coach

Herve Renard, 54, announced his resignation as Saudi Arabia's head coach following consecutive defeats to Venezuela and Bolivia.

There are many signs that Renard will be hired as the coach of the French women's football team in the near future.

"SAPP has accepted the resignation of Herve Renard," AFP reported on Tuesday, citing an inside source. "Tonight's friendly against Bolivia (1-2) is his last game as Saudi coach."

"We tried to talk Renard out of his decision, but he was determined to come back and coach a national team. We couldn't stop him from fulfilling his dream," the source added later.

Hervé Renard is from France and once led Zambia and Ivory Coast to win the Africa Cup of Nations. He has been in charge of the Saudi coach since the summer of 2019 and has recorded a total of 18 wins, 11 draws and 12 losses.

A SAFF official statement stated: "At the request of Hervé Renard, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation has agreed to terminate the contract with him. The two parties have now reached a legal agreement on the termination (originally expected to last until 2027)."

"SAFF wishes Mr Renard every success in the remainder of his career."
