Polish FA appoints ex-Portugal coach Santos as head coach

Poland will name former Portugal coach Fernán do Santos as their new coach, Polish Football Association ( PZPN ) president Kulesa said on Monday.


Kulesa shared a photo with Santos on Twitter after the 68 -year-old Portuguese was photographed at Warsaw airport earlier on Monday .

" See you tomorrow at the meeting at @PGENarodowy Stadium! " Kulesa wrote alongside the photo.

Santos and the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) agreed to terminate his contract as Portugal coach in December following a World Cup quarter-final exit to Morocco.

Polish Sports and Tourism Minister Kamil Botnizuk congratulated Kulesa and the FA on Santos' appointment before the president announced his appointment.

Santos' achievements

Santos guided Portugal to Euro 2016 and Nations League success in 2018-19, captained by Cristiano Ronaldo. At club level, he has coached Porto, AEK Athens, Panathinaikos, Sporting Lisbon, Benfica, PAOK and he has also been the coach of Greece for four years.


Former Poland coach Czeslaw Mičnievic left at the end of December following the FA's decision not to renew his contract after leading his side to their first appearance in 36 years in the knockout stages of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar .
