PSS beat Dewa United 1-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals, Seto is grateful

PSS Sleman to the quarter-finals accompanied PSIS Semarang who topped Group A.

SOLO -- PSS Sleman qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Dewa United 1-0 in the preliminary round match of the 2022 Presidential Cup Group at the Manahan Stadium, Solo, Central Java, Monday (27/6/2022) evening. In that match, both teams needed a win to qualify for the quarter-finals.

This made both teams play extra cautiously by both strengthening defense and relying on counter attacks. PSS got the only chance of the first half in the 44th minute when Boaz Salossa's hard kick from outside the box was caught by United goalkeeper Dewa Saiful.

In the second half, both teams continued to play monotonously by only going back and forth in midfield and occasionally pressing. PSS's counter-attack through Albert Ferre and Kamarudin did not succeed in breaking through Dewa United's defense that was raised by Risto Mitrevski.

In the 71st minute, PSS broke the deadlock through Valente Jose Pedro's hard kick after taking advantage of a set-piece from outside the penalty box sent by Saiful Ramadhan. Valente, who was free standing, grabbed the ball towards the goal so that PSS took a 1-0 lead which lasted until the referee Arfan Efendi blew the long whistle signaling the end of the match.

PSS Sleman coach Seto Nurdiyantoro appreciated the hard work of his players and was grateful to be able to win over Dewa so that his team qualified for the quarter-finals with PSIS Semarang who topped Group A.

"I am grateful that the team was able to win over Dewa United 1-0 so that they qualified as runners-up to PSIS as winners of Group A," said Seto.

On the other hand, Dewa United FC coach Nil Maizar said his carelessness at the end of the match made his team conceded the goal. But he praised his players who he said had fought extraordinary.

Nil regretted that his forward, Rishadi Fauzi, was forced to leave the field due to an injury due to his foot being stepped on. "The President's Cup tournament is a barometer for our team in preparing for the upcoming Liga 1 competition," he explained.
