Qatar World Cup - France's Hernandez out of World Cup with knee injury
2022-11-23 13:01Lucas Hernandez 's World Cup campaign has come to an end with a knee injury sustained in the defending Group D champions' 4-1 win over Australia on Tuesday , the French Football Federation said .
The FFF confirmed to Reuters an earlier report from L'Equipe that Hernandez had suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his knee and he was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Hernandez limped off the pitch after a few minutes on the grass, holding his right knee after the ball was beaten by Matthew Leckie, who made Craig Goodwin's opener for Australia The goal sent a cross.
Take it easy
In his absence, coach Didier Deschamps is already grappling with a number of key players who have been left out of the tournament in Qatar.
The 2018 champions were without star striker Karim Benzema after Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema injured his left thigh in training on Saturday . Also absent are Paul Pogba, N'Golo Kante and Presnell Kimpembe .
" Honestly, it started to become a big thing, " said France captain Hugo Lloris. " We realized right away that the situation was serious, " the Tottenham keeper added after the game.
Deschamps will now have to weigh his options as his squad is reduced to 24 players. He had feared Hernandez would get worse when he told French broadcaster TF1 after Tuesday's opener : " He will have some tests, which seem serious to me.
