Ramos to leave Paris Saint-Germain

Sergio Ramos is leaving Paris Saint-Germain after two underwhelming seasons at the French club .

The veteran centre-back is set to follow Lionel Messi away from the French capital when his contract at the club expires. Ramos, 37, joined Paris Saint-Germain from Real Madrid in 2021 and has made 57 appearances in all competitions . Although he left a two-time Ligue 1 winner, he failed to help the French club achieve their goal of winning the Champions League.

Ramos wrote in a social media post: "Tomorrow is a special day, tomorrow I will say goodbye to another phase of my life, to Paris Saint-Germain. I don't know how many places one can feel at home, but there is no No doubt, Paris Saint-Germain , the fans and Paris is one of them for me. Thanks for these two special years, during which I was able to participate in all competitions and give my all."

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Spaniard will have the opportunity to say farewell to the Paris Saint-Germain fans in Saturday's final Ligue 1 game against Claremont FC. He could then head to Saudi Arabia, as he has been approached by clubs.

Separately, Paris Saint-Germain head coach Christophe Galti confirmed Messi will play his final game for the club this weekend against Claremont. Galti is grateful for the opportunity to work with "the best player in football history" and while fans won't dispute that statement, they have a very different opinion of the Argentine.

It's no coincidence that in the eyes of fans, they've only seen something resembling Messi at his best on the eve of the 2022 World Cup. The prevailing feeling is that Paris Saint-Germain is primarily acting as a springboard for Messi to arrive in Qatar in top physical condition.

Former Paris Saint-Germain winger Jerome Rothen said after Munich's pathetic and lackluster Champions League round of 16 knockout: "The joke is, we saw him play in Qatar, I saw his movements, how he threw himself into it, I don't mind that because it's the national team shirt, it's another thing, but have a little respect for this club in Paris, the club that keeps you in status and salary.

"Only Paris Saint-Germain can give him all that, and obviously PSG bowed to him because they thought Messi would help us win (the Champions League). But he didn't win us anything!"
