Rapid Wien bolster title challenge hope by signing Bologna

Rapid Wien announced on its official website on Thursday that the club has signed Netherlands U21s international defender Denso Kasius on-loan from Bologna.

According to Rapid Wien's official statement, Kasius will play for the club on-loan until the end of the season, and the agreement does not include any buyout clause. At the same time, he will also wear the No. 2 jersey.

After completing his joining procedures, Kasius, who was interviewed by Rapid Wien's official website for the first time said: "I'm really excited and can't wait to play for this traditional club for the first time. I want to achieve the biggest success with my new teammates."

"After the first conversations with Markus Katzer (sporting director) and Zoran Barišić (interim manager) I have a very good feeling that this step is ideal for me at the moment.”

Kasius, who is only 20 years old, was born in Delft in the south of the Netherlands on November 6, 2002. He is 1.83 meters tall and plays as a right wing-back. When Kasius was young, he played for the youth academies of the three traditional Eredivisie clubs, in the form of Sparta Rotterdam, Feyenoord and ADO Den Haag. In 2018, he moved to the youth academy of Utrecht.

Kasius started playing for thw Utrecht reserve team in mid-September 2020, and then joined FC Volendam on-loan at the end of January 2021.

After a series of good performances while on-loan, Kasius joined Bologna in January 2022 for €3 million.

Since coming to Bologna, Kasius has made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A side, assisting twice.

Rapid Wien announced that the former head coach Ferdinand Feldhofer was sacked after experiencing 4 consecutive winless run in October this season. After that, Barišić temporarily took over the head coaching position of the club, and coincidentally, they immediately returned to winning ways.

Currently, Rapid Wien is in the fourth place of Austrian Bundesliga, only 3 points away from the LASK Linz who were in front of them.
