Ronaldo helps revive Al Nasr hopes in Saudi title race
2023-05-17 12:34Cristiano Ronaldo revived Al Nasr 's slim hopes of winning the Saudi Pro League title in his first season at the club after scoring from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win over Al-Ta'ee on Tuesday .
Al Nasr were within three points of the top spot with three games left in the season as league leaders Al Ittihad dropped a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 with Al Hilal.
However, Ittihad still have the advantage in a head-to-head clash with Al Nasr , with the first tiebreaker if the teams level on points.
A Ronaldo penalty gave Al Nasr the lead after half-time at Ha'ir's Al Tay Stadium, before Brazilian Talisca set the stage with another goal ten minutes after the final whistle .
Ronaldo was also present at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, at least in spirit , as Hilal scored a controversial goal at the end of each half to fight back and let Ittiha The German team scored a draw.
Ittihad took the lead through Coronado and Ahmed Bamsoud within the first half hour , but Musab Aljuwayr narrowed the score four minutes before the break.
The teenager's cross appeared to be held in front of Etihad keeper Marcelo Groch and after just over a minute of play VAR confirmed that the ball had indeed crossed the goal line.
There was deja vu in stoppage time at the end of the game, when Al Hilal striker Michael 's shot appeared to be cleared by defender Ahmed Hegazy , but VAR again confirmed that the goal line had been breached.
The Brazilian then added salt to his wounds and irritated the Ittihad players by performing Ronaldo's trademark " Siiii ! " Celebrating a goal in front of the visiting fans.
