Victory in the Community Shield is actually considered dangerous for Liverpool

City coach Pep Guardiola now has a much better idea.

LEICESTSER -- Liverpool got off to the perfect start to the new season last weekend when they won the Community Shield against Manchester City. Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and new signing Darwin Nunez saw the Reds walk away with a trophy that will be a huge boost ahead of the 2022/2023 Premier League season.

It is predicted that it could give the Merseysiders a big psychological boost ahead of the new campaign. The Reds and City will face each other to once again battle it out for the Premier League title. While the win - and the resulting trophy - cannot be underestimated, the Reds have overcome their closest challenger to potentially worry them heading into the new season.

City coach Pep Guardiola now has a much better idea of what he needs to work on over the coming week as he tries to get his team up front. They will start to defend their title, whether it be fitness, special tactics or instruction to their starting players.

The former Barcelona tactician doesn't like losing so will be trying harder than ever to get his team back on track ahead of what promises to be a test start to the season against West Ham United

He had confirmed this in his post-match press conference at the King Power Stadium. "We have to improve. There is not much time for us to do, especially the fact that we need training and games this month to get our tempo and we will," said Guardiola quoted by the Mirror , Sunday (31/7/2022).

City also have a history of doing just that and going on to secure the Premier League title in some fashion. In 2011/2012, they found themselves on the wrong end with a 2-3 score of great rivals Manchester United. The consolation was just a harbinger of what was to come as they then passed the Red Devils on the final day of the campaign - Sergio Aguero bagging the trophy with the final kick of the season.

City then repeated the trick last season. Coming against reigning FA Cup champions Leicester City at Wembley, their former player, Kelechi Iheanacho proved to be the villain as he scored the winner to upset Guardiola's men. They responded in the best way possible with 93 points and their sixth Premier League title overall.

Liverpool will no doubt be back to compete with City. So while the Reds have won the first battle between the two sides this season. Liverpool may be eyeing a win at the Etihad Stadium as Guardiola is plotting how he can get the win.
