West Ham boss Moyes believes he can beat Alkmaar again in UEFA semi-final
2023-05-18 15:34Eredivisie Alkmaar will host Premier League West Ham United in the second round of the UEFA Europa League semi-final tomorrow. West Ham United coach David Moyes said at the pre-match press conference today that he believes the team will beat Alkmaar again in the European war.
Moyes once led Everton in the Premier League to defeat Alkmaar, then coached by Louis van Gaal, 3-2 in the UEFA Europa League in 2007, breaking Alkmaar's unbeaten record of 32 games. And Moyes is also the first coach to beat Alkmaar away in a European war.
However, since then, Premier League Arsenal, Manchester United, Serie A Lazio and La Liga Valencia have all tried to beat Alkmaar away, but in the end they all became Alkmaar's defeat.
Now after 16 years, West Ham United coached by Moyes will once again face Alkmaar away. Moyes hopes to conquer Alkmaar again and lead the team to the UEFA Europa League final.
Moyes said that although Alkmaar has a good record, he once led the team to win the game here, and will try again to win against strong opponents in this important event.
West Ham lead AZ Alkmaar 2-1 in the first round of the UEFA semi-final. A victory in the second round will move West Ham into the final and move closer to winning their first UEFA trophy since 1980 .
The current coach of Alkmaar, Pascal Jansen, revealed that the team has so far maintained the best record at home in Europe. There is no doubt that they will go all out to defend the home court advantage.
Jansen also emphasized that although West Ham have stronger away records in the Premier League and Europe, these statistics are a thing of the past, and Alkmaar will prevent West Ham from winning and successfully advancing to the UEFA final.
