Wolverhampton Wanderers bolster attack by signing Stuttgart

Wolverhampton Wanderers announced on their official website last night that the club has signed Austria international center forward Saša Kalajdžić from Stuttgart.

Kalajdžić who was handed the vacated no.18 shirt last worn by Diogo Jota,  has signed on a a five-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2027with an option of another year.

In addition, according to renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, a resident famous Italian transfer journalist of British Kalajdžić's transfer fee is €18 million.

Upon joining, Kalajdžić said that he has reached the age to find new challenges for his career, and it is a correct choice to come to Wolves.

He also added that as the Premier League has always been known as the "NBA of football" for being one of the best leagues in the world, thus it is a very exciting challenge to be able to compete with the best players in the league.

The 25-year-old Kalajdžić was born in Vienna, Austria on July 7, 1997. He is 2 meters tall and has Serbian descent. He plays as a center forward and is nicknamed the Austrian Peter Crouch. Kalajdžić came through the youth system of a local non-league club in Vienna at a young age. He mainly played as an attacking midfielder during that time until he joined the reserve team of former Austrian Bundesliga club Admira Wacker in 2016. Since joining Admira, Kalajdžić was retrained as a center forward.

Kalajdžić was officially promoted to the first team in January 2018, and in March of the same year, he completed his first team debut on a perfect way by scoring in the game.

In the summer of 2019, Kalajdžić joined Stuttgart, who had been relegated to the second-tier at the time, for €6million. However, as he was seriously injured shortly after joining, Kalajdžić had to wait until the club was promoted to the Bundesliga again the following year to properly showcase his talents, and he came back with a bang by scoring 17 goals in all competitions immediately.

Last season, due to the poor overall perfomances of the whole team, although Kalajdžić failed to replicate his previous scintillating, he still scored 6 goals and made 2 assists across in 15 appearances in all competitions, helping Stuttgart avoid relegation successfully.

At the international level, Kalajdžić made his Austrian senior national team debut in October 2020. So far, he has played 15 times for the country, scoring 4 goals.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are currently ranked 18th in the table after 3 draws, 2 losses and remained winless. Hopefully Kalajdžić's arrival can lead the former powerhouse owned by Fosun International get back to its best.
