Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly targeting to appoint Queens Park Rangers manager Michael Beale as their new head coach..

The Guardian reported on Wednesday that Wolverhampton Wanderers have switched targets and targeted Queens Park Rangers head coach Michael Beale as their next managerial candidate.

According to reports, Wolverhampton Wanderers tried to approach former manager Nuno Espirito-Santo after being rejected by Julen Lopetegui and Bo Svensson, but as Espirito-Santo has just took over the managerial role of the Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ittihad in July, and that he has responded through the local media in Saudi Arabia that he has no intention of leaving the team, hence Wolves had to look for another candidate.

As the news rumbled on, Mark McAdam, renowned British resident sportscaster of Sky Sports, also made a follow-up report, and revealed that Beale himself had been aware of the rumour since around 3:00p.m. afternoon local time on Wednesday. He had even turned off his cellphone to avoid reporters' questioning, it was only when McAdam contacted the Queens Park Rangers club office that he was finally able to get in touch with Beale.

McAdam said, Beale told himself: "It is very difficult for me to leave Queens Park Rangers at this moment, let alone leaving this young team."

"I haven't had any discussions with Director of Football Les Ferdinand or anyone about this matter, and as far as I know, nothing has changed. I decided to turn off my phone because we want to focus on this upcoming game and not have the team distracted by noise by the outside. I won't know it's going to end one way or the other until the moment comes when Les approaches me."

"If the other party formally submits an offer to you, you don't have to accept it immediately. You must first weigh all the factors, because at that time you will still have many questions left that need to be answered."

"It's my dream to be coaching in the Premier League. But it has to be the right opportunity, the right timing and the right club. The next 24 hours will be a pinnacle and tense moment for me and for the club."

Getting his name known through Premier League giants

Beale, 42, took over as Queen's Park Rangers head coach in June this year. Since joining, he has focused on young players and attacking football tactics, where he currently leads the club to the top spot in the EFL Championship.

Beale was a coach in Chelsea's youth academy in the past, working with two England internationals, Tammy Abraham and Dominic Solanke, but was discouraged as the Blues neglected on focusing to promote youth players at the time. Disheartened, he moved to Liverpool in 2012 as the head coach of the U21s.

In 2017, Beale left England for the first time to become the assistant coach of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A giants São Paulo, and then returned to the Reds as assistant coach upon the invitation of the legendary Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. During this time, he helped nurtured wonderkids such as Curtis Jones, Ben Woodburn, Neco Williams, Rhys Williams and many more.

In the summer of 2018, Beale followed another Liverpool legend, Gary McAllister, to become Gerrard's assistant coach during his time at Rangers. In November 2021, he moved to Aston Villa with Gerrard, but after having his release clause triggered by Queens Park Rangers this summer, Beale left the Villans to take up the role as the Rs' first-team head coach.

As Gerrard's assistant, Beale was often the one who assisted with the training sessions and contributed tactical ideas, as such this also explains why Aston Villa's performances has slipped so much after his departure.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been searching for a replacement for Bruno Lage since he was sacked, but have stumbled across multiple obstacles ever since. Wolves lost 1-2 to Crystal Palace in their last Premier League game and are currently in 17th.

Queens Park Rangers meanwhile will face Cardiff City in the Championship on Thursday, where Beale's managerial capabilties will attract global attention.
